Preventing cold sores through diet

Do you remember that old saying “prevention is better than cure”? It may not have meant much to you when you were a kid, but when applying it to preventing cold sores it is clearly true.

In the case of cold sores prevention focuses on looking after the immune system so that it can prevent the cold sore virus – herpes simplex virus I – from leaving its dormant stage and causing the blisters. Keeping the immune system topped up means looking after your body and one of the most important ways in which you can do this is through your diet.

This means eating sensibly and although you’ll have heard this advice many times before it means low fat, low sugar and lots of fresh fruit and veg. By eliminating junk food from your diet you’ll be doing away with many of the toxins that stress your immune system and not only will it help in preventing cold sores, but you’ll feel healthier and more energetic generally.
