They’re called cold sores, but those painful and unsightly sores around the mouth don’t have anything to do with the common cold.
“A better name for them that’s commonly used is fever blisters, because fever is one thing that can trigger an outbreak of cold sores,” says Dr. John Swartzberg, head of the editorial board at the UC Berkeley Wellness Letter.
